My latest story for Alfred Hitchcock Magazine

>> Wednesday, November 18, 2009

My second story for Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, "Okiku and the Nine Plates," appears in the Jan/Feb 2010 double issue, on sale now!* I still haven't made the cover yet. Maybe next time. :-)

"Okiku and the Nine Plates" is a re-imagining of the classic Japanese ghost story of the same name. I give it a murder mystery spin by inventing a Shogun-era "Special Investigator," who has a knack for dealing with yokai--Japanese spirits--and seeing things others don't. It's sort of a Shogun-era X-Files. (Samurai Ghostbusters?)

I'm thrilled to be back in the pages of Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, which features excellent short fiction of mystery and suspense. Among other great stuff, this month includes a story from F/SF writer Kristine Kathryn Rusch about a murder at a science fiction convention, which of course I love.

Go grab a copy and let me know what you think of "Okiku and the Nine Plates!"

* Yes, the Jan/Feb 2010 issue is on sale in November 2009. It's a magazine publishing thing.

Can I get a contract to make the plates when this story goes to film?

Absolutely. Only they all get broken, so you'll probably have to make a few sets for filming purposes.
