Work in Progress: Snow Twitter

>> Monday, January 5, 2009

It's back to work for me today and I have to say I'm a little sad. It was a wonderful break with some traveling, some relaxing, some cooking, and some sewing. Not as much sewing as I would have liked, but most of it was by hand in front of the fire, which is extra nice. I already showed my new avatar. Here's the other thing I worked on. . .This was my second try and it's still not quite right, but it's almost there. I love the bird - and I only have a teeny scrap of that fabric left so I better get my next try right. I love the branchy/berry-filled outline to the twitter - it's exactly what I envisioned. I don't love the snowflakes. They were supposed to be feathery and delicate, but then they were invisible on the light blue background. So I made them thicker - with six strands of embroidery thread. They still didn't show up well enough so I added a dark blue border around each. Now they stand out, but they look very clunky to me and out of balance with everything else. So I'm going to try it one more time with a dark blue background. We'll see.

Very cute, I like it. Maybe try experimenting with Angelina for the snowflakes?

Thanks for the suggestion! I've never heard of Angelina before so I just looked it up. I did experiment with some silver mylar thread but it didn't show up any better than the white and the metallic shine looked very. . .hard. . . against the rest of the more natural colors.

Maybe try a lighter blue, one closer to the shade of the background?
