DragonCon 2010 - Pics

We already posted pics of Jo ruling the 2010 DragonCon Friday Night Costume Contest, but there were of course tons of other great hall costumes out there! We got far fewer pictures this year than last (we seemed to be more busy doing other...stuff...this year!) but we still got lots of great snaps to share.

This year, rather than divide them up by category, I'm going to be lazy and post them in the order I took them--except for the ones with US in them. I'll save those for a Gratz family-themed post!

Steampunk Mary Poppins and chimneysweeps.

A Clone Wars collection.

Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece, one of our favorite manga/anime series! Jo claims he even had the little scar under his eye like Luffy...

I have...no idea. But that's one big wrench.

Captain Boomerang!

A medieval crossing guard?

A cosmic dress.

The time traveler who later entered the costume contest. I think this might be a character from a Terry Prachett novel?

Dozers! (from Fraggle Rock)

Isis and Anubis?

Flash! Ah-ahhhhhh. And Ming, Princess Aura, and Dale Arden.

I seriously don't doubt it.

River Song from Doctor Who!

And while we're at it, a young lady dressed up as a KICK ASS Doctor Who...

Complete with a homemade police box messenger bag! Now THAT'S the way to rock a DragonCon hall costume!

More DragonCon pics tomorrow!

  1. Um, yes. A very big wrench indeed...

Huh. I didn't realize you could dress up like people from books! I thought these things were only for comic books! Of course, neither Star Wars nor Fraggle Rock is a comic book (please tell me Fraggle Rock wasn't ever?!)...

I love that people aren't limited by what gender their fave character was - a girl Doctor works just fine!

  2. Anything goes at DragonCon: you'll find stormtroopers next to superheroes next to Hogwarts students. If it has any connection to pop/alt culture, it has a home at DragonCon. That's one of the many reasons we love it!

And I'm sure the Fraggles were given their own comic at some point, but that's certainly not why the costumes are appropriate here. Muppets of any kind are big at DragonCon, and it didn't take Jim Henson's Muppet Babies to make it so!
