A pretty good sign you're being blown off

A phone call I had today:

Me: Yes, hello--I'm calling for George Thomas.

Secretary: May I ask who's calling?

Me: My name is Alan Gratz. G-R-A-T-Z.

Secretary: Alan Gratz?

Me: That's right.

(a beat)

Secretary: He's not here. Can I take a message?
