Maybe authors who resist this can discuss using a large local library and meet the kids there instead. Frankly, it's insulting, but I agree that no child deserves to be put in a situation of potential danger because of how insulted an adult might be.

But dang. It's also about your information being placed in yet another government database that makes a lovely target for hackers and identity thieves.jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09339024910274301559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5813155461240201466.post-70403935332070172182009-07-17T11:49:32.783-04:002009-07-17T11:49:32.783-04:00It's a tough one, I think. On one hand, I totally understand the need for something like this for people who will be alone with kids and it's just so much easier not to have exceptions to it than to allow them. On the other, the authors have a legitimate argument. The fee's not extraordinarily high (if you live in the UK then the cost of living is a lot higher so it's like paying $65 instead of if you do the math and exchange it to US dollars) and maybe publishers will pay it. If it were me, I think I'd take a stand that it's ridiculous to include authors, but too much trouble not to, and just suck it up. I mean, you can get worked up over a lot more important things.joellehttp://www.joelleanthony.comnoreply@blogger.com
